Wenn es Nacht wird, tanzen bei Volksfaden die Puppen über Tische und Bänke – um dann tagsüber wieder brav im Schaufenster zu stehen.

Ab jetzt gibt es mindestens einmal pro Monat ein revoluzZzionäres neues Schaufenster bei Volksfaden. Lasst Euch überraschen!
Schon vor längerer Zeit wurde ich von Isabell Neher kontaktiert, ob ich mir vorstellen könnte, eine spezielle Puppe für ein Projekt von Amnesty International über Gewalt gegenüber Frauen zu entwerfen. Es müsste eine ansprechende Puppe sein, die auf keinen Fall an eine Voodoo-Puppe erinnern sollte. Dabei sollte sie aber auch möglichst leicht zu nähen sein und eine bestimmte Größe nicht überschreiten.
Keine Voodoo-Puppe? Genau, denn die fertige Puppe wird mit spitzen Nadeln genau an den Stellen markiert, an denen Frauen am häufigsten verletzt werden.
Nun bin ich stolz und froh, dass das Projekt gestartet ist – unter dem Titel „“Äusserst grausames Spiel“.
Und jeder kann mitmachen!
Ein bisschen Erfahrung mit der Nähmaschine ist von Vorteil – aber nicht zwingend notwendig. Und selbst wenn gar keine Nähmaschine vorhanden ist, kann man mitmachen – es ist dann zwar etwas aufwendiger und kniffeliger – aber machbar (in meinen Kinderkursen hat schon so manches Kind ähnliche Puppen ganz fantastisch mit der Hand zusammengenäht, ist sozusagen eigentlich kinderleicht).

Macht mit und erzählt Anderen von dem Projekt – und am besten sind natürlich Nährunden, denn das Thema lädt ja nun wirklich zur Diskussion während des gemeinsamen Schaffens ein.
Im Januar werden wir sehr wahrscheinlich einen Nähnachmittag im Stoffladen Volksfaden veranstalten.

Some time ago the German designer and concepter Isabell Neher contacted and asked me if I could imagine to design a special doll for an Amnesty International project.
The project is about violance towards women – and the doll had to be nice and appealing. And easy to sew.
And should not at all remind of a voodoo doll. A voodoo doll? Yes – because the doll will be marked with needles at those parts of the body where women often get hurt.
And now I’m glad and proud that the project finally started and you all can participate: Go to the Amnesty International Website
Germany, download the tutorial and the pattern (in German – but it’s kind of self explaining), sew a doll and send it to Isabell (the address you can find also on the Amnesty International website). There your doll will get prepared and at the International Women’s Day 2012 all the dolls will be distributed together with lots of Infortmations about violance concerning women, forced marriage, genital mutilation and so on as a part of an event.
It’s meant to be a strong experience to get something as pretty and playful as a doll – and all of a sudden realize that there are needles all over it and then learn about the background.
I already tried it out and it worked – as long as the people were not prepared that smething unusual was going on with the doll.

Some time ago Holly Becker invited me to a very special event that took place this saturday: A party to celebrate the release of the german version of her book „Decorate“ – „Lust auf Wohnen“ – in Germany.
And it WAS A PARTY!
Holly were talking about her life and her work in a very inspiring and encouraging way – and I think each of us felt motivated to… finally start/continue a blog/realize the idea she/he was always thinking of/just start something new.
One thing she said especially remained in my head: „Use your blog to tell your story“ – so it’s just not enough to show pretty pictures you think others might like or collect things others already showed successfully on their blogs. Think about what YOU like and what YOU want to tell – and make your blog authentic and unique.
I also liked Steffi’s presentation a lot – who was representing Brigitte. And who is also writing a personal blog which many of you might know: Ohhh… Hm…. Besides all the interesting details about how you can try to connect your online blogging with being published in a print media like Brigitte – Steffi said: „Trau Dich, eigene Ideen zu haben – Don’t be afraid to have your own ideas!“ So just don’t care about what others think or do – trust yourself that YOUR ideas are really good – and not silly or ridiculous at all.
And I think this is such an important message. The blogger scene is so overwhelming and so strong nowadays – it can easily happen that you forget about your own motivations and you just get carried away and end up blogging things that are not really your own unique ideas but just follow the blogging mainstream (and honestly I can see this in some blogs that started so promising and unique and are today just average…).
So: – think of Steffi and: „Trau Dich, eigene Ideen zu haben!“
Oh, well… and absolutely amazing was Matthew Stinchcomb from etsy.com. I’m actually not able to write all of the interesting and inspiring things he was talking about… it was kind of a thunderstorm of inspiration that was rolling over us and left us with many new informations and good feelings. He was talking about: social shopping (of course), why the new way of producers selling their goods directly to the customers (direct exchange) is the best way and also of course is the way people did trade for hundreds of years before the industrialization changed everything, about the occupy movement, sexual arousal, inside-out-computers, self-sufficiency, break down of the economic and ecological system, burning houses, why granny’s quilt is more important than a flatscreen… well, and many more interesting issues.
If you have a chance to listen to one of his presentations or to meet him: Do it – you will absolutely enjoy it.
Alright, I will end this part with one of Matt’s book recommendations: „Small Is Beautiful: Economics as if People Mattered“ by E. F. Schumacher.

When the party was over at the Soho House – Dolores, Juliane, Wesna and I headed to a nice restaurant and were evolving huge plans to change the world into a better place of creativity, sustainability and harmony (of course) and we decided to make those meetings more often. And yes – you always plan to do this and mostly never realize it. But this time – we will. So let’s meet each other next time: In Vienna.

After a long week of lots and lots of work, many different projects and meeting many (amazing, more about that tomorrow) people … I really need to leave the city and relax. And one of my favorite areas right now is the Schorfheide. It’s only a 30-minutes-drive from where we live and it’s just wonderful there.
Nach einer langen Arbeitswoche, angefüllt mit vielen und sehr unterschiedlichen Projekten, Begegnungen mit vielen Menschen (und darunter auch einige ganz besondere, aber dazu morgen mehr) brauche ich am Wochenende einfach ein paar Stunden außerhalb der Stadt. Und momentan ist meine Lieblingsgegend die Schorfheide – nur eine Autofahrt von ca. 30 Minuten von uns entfernt.
Im Herbst ist die Schorfheide so wunderbar vielfältig – von spröde bis lieblich, von farbenfroh bis karg. Einfach wunderbar.
