Last weekend we drove to the trade fair “modell-hobby-spiel” in Leipzig and I found many inspirations and the kids had a lot of fun.
My son loved the model aircrafts and the RC cars best. And of course all those model railroad stuff. And my daughter was fascinated by all those dollhouses. Sometimes it’s a bit scary how very much my kids match those gender clichés. Although Levin got a Barbie doll already when he was very little and my daughter got many little cars – didn’t work :-)

Letztes Wochenende fuhren wir zur modell-hobby-spiel in Leipzig. Ich fand es dort ausgesprochen inspirierend – und die Kinder hatten jede Menge Spaß. Levin liebte die Modellflugzeuge und ferngesteuerten Autos (und gewann bei einem der Wettbewerbe sogar eine Goldmedaille als jüngster und ausgesprochen erfolgreicher Teilnehmer – auf die Medaille ist er mächtig stolz :-) )
Und Lilith fand sämtliche Puppenhäuser einfach großartig.
We discovered wonderful and very special building blocks made of quartz sand, chalk, colour pigments and linseed oil. They look great and it’s just good to touch them and built with them. My kids both loved them and many, many other kids surrounded the tables with the blocks. They are made in Germany but we found out that they sell them all arround the world.

Für die Kinder entdeckten wir ganz besondere Bausteine, die aus Quarzsand, Kalk und Leinöl gepresst werden und mit denen mal wirklich toll bauen kann. Sie wiegen schwerer in der Hand als Holzbausteine – und die gebauten Gebäude stürzen bei weitem nicht so schnell ein wie die aus Holzbausteinen. Alle Kinder waren einfach begeistert. Mehr Infos hier.
But the trade fair wasn’t only about kids stuff – but also about creative techniques and materials. Many, many workshops took place and a lot of creative people could share their experiences and learn new techniques and so on.

Aber auf der messe gab es nicht nur Kinderzeugs – sondern auch jede Menge Workshops auf denen die teilnehmer neue kreative Techniken und Materialen kennen lernen und Erfahrungen austauschen konnten.

A Flower-Yo-Yo-Maker: A little thingy that helps to make the usual Yo-Yos – and Yo-Yos with a flower shape. I bought one of these and will show you my results soon.

Ein Yo-Yo-Macher – oder wie das Ding auch immer heissen mag :-) . Es gibt ihn in unterschiedlichen Größen und Ausführungen. Ich kaufte mir einen, mit dem man kleine blumenförmige Yo-Yos machen kann. Die resultate werde ich Euch dann zeigen.
And last but not least: I found one of the best farbric and sewing accessoires shops in whole Germany: Stoffekontor. They have their shop in Leipzig – so if you ever travel to Leipzig: Have a look at the Stoffekontor shop :-) They also have a very good online-shop – but it’s in German only.
